The main event of the year is our annual
show and again this year our show secretary,
Jack, and his team of helpers came up trumps and produced a memorable
occasion for all who took part or attended. On the
20th August, the Association held its 34th Annual Horticultural
Show, known as "The Great Village Show", for the first time at Oak
Grove College. There was a record number of entries and the hall
looked simply stunning; a riot of colour, with so much glorious
fruit, vegetables, flowers and cookery on display. The judge awarded
the Best in Show award to Peter Webb's Top Tray which really was
a superb display of vegetables. Other eye catchers were Bernie Broad's
huge marrow that took two people to carry, Valerie Hitchon's fantastic
novelty cake decorated to look like an allotment and Collin Stowe's
giant leeks, but there were so many gems. For an extra bit of interest
Martin Ellmore staged a display of 18 different varieties of potato
grown mainly by himself; amazing!
We have a pub night on the last Tuesday
of every month in the North Star on the Littlehampton Road. All
members are welcome and we don't even make you buy a round on your
first visit. It's just a very friendly little get-together to talk
about anything and enjoy a drink in a relaxed atmosphere.

Our Association Dinner in 2011 was
at Highdown Vineyard, on Friday, 18th February. A great time was

Our main annual outing is to Wisley
(this year we went to Wisley on 4th
June) but a small group also went on a short jaunt to Brussels
to see a bulb festival in April.
