                  GARDENING SITES

Worthing Borough Council's site has a section devoted to our allotments and our allotments association with some contact details.

Our association is affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society and the National Vegetable Society and both have really extensive sites well worth a visit.

Lancing Horticultural Society has its own website. If you want to see what others in our area are up to click here.

The Real Gardeners site contains hints and tips and gardening information and chatrooms and forums.

Allotments 4 all is an allotments information site and also has a members' forum.

Allotments UK is a directory of allotment links with gardening information and a forum.

The Henry Doubleday Research Association is now called Garden Organic and is a mine of information for the organic gardener and anybody else for that matter.

The aim of the Allotments Regeneration Initiative is to get more people growing on allotments. They have a large site branching out in many directions..

The National Allotments Garden Trust holds national competitions annually if you're feeling competitive and gives details of events.

Grow Your Own magazine has a very handy website for anyone growing their own fruit and/or vegetables.

The National Society for Allotments and Leisure Gardeners fights for your rights and is trying to stop the gradual disappearance of allotment sites.

The BBC Gardeners' World site has lists of topical tips, "how to" pages and a wealth of information.

Landscapeexpert gives lots of tips on garden design and planning of all kinds not just landsaping. It even has advice on laying a lawn and information about soil structure.

                  LOCAL SITES

The town of Worthing now includes several districts which used to be - and some of which still consider themselves to be - separate villages in their own rights. Places such as Durrington-on-Sea, Tarring, Broadwater, Goring-by-Sea and High Salvington all have their own individual characters and, for those in search of knowledge and truth, some of them have their own web sites too. They also have their own sections on Worthing Borough Council's extensive site.

              GREEN ISSUES

Fancy something for nothing? Or want to get rid of something but you don't know how? Or just want to do your bit for the environment? If you answered YES to any of these questions, then I suggest you visit the Freecycle website.

West Sussex Green Club is a council run site with forums, seasonal tips, discounts and useful links.

www.compost.org.uk will tell you all you're ever likely to want to know about compost but just in case it doesn't you can also try the Better Environment site, www.wrap.org.uk.

If you live in West Sussex you can get a compost bin for £10 delivered to your door! Just go to www.recyclenow.com/compost or ring 0845-0770757. A great site for learning how to make compost and other green ideas.

If you have an interest in wildlife in Sussex visit the site of the Sussex Wildlife Trust. They speak out and are listened to on all the major environmental issues that impact on life in Sussex. They also have a service called WildCall which can:

  • Give free advice via phone or email
  • Send you information free of charge
  • Tell you who you need to talk to

So if you want to know how to improve your pond for wildlife or have found something interesting in your garden and want to know more about it why not contact WildCall.
